The Washington Center for Management and Leadership (WCML, later expanded to WCMLCS with the addition of a cybersecurity branch) was formed in 1990 to provide the latest thinking on management and leadership to the Government of South Korea. It was subsequently expanded to encompass a broader agenda for other countries in five continents including North America. Over the past thirty years WCMLCS has conducted a diverse set of projects, including the higher education sector.
Through its work in the higher education sector, WCMLCS participants became aware of a serious gap in the effectiveness of online doctoral education. Specifically’ they noted the high number of students that, for a variety of reasons, were not able to finish their doctorates. So many dreams are vanquished by the management failure of an institution, and not by the failings of the student. Horror stories are plentiful describing mentor abandonment, overly complicated procedures, or a clear lack of proper attention to the student's learning and progress. Descriptions of graduate student abuse appear real and frequent as part of the system.
To help ameliorate this situation, the Washington Center has developed the Doctoral Achievement Program. It is intended as a cost-effective second bite of the apple, run by caring and experienced people truly interested in helping students succeed. Is this program for you? It is not for everyone, but, rather for those individuals who still cherish their dream of a doctoral degree and are motivated to put in the work required to complete their doctorate. This is not a diploma mill program. Individuals accepted into the program will do doctoral level work, and write at a doctoral level. Just as online education is meant to provide access to higher education for individuals who cannot attend a campus-based program, the Doctoral Achievement Program is meant for individuals who had to drop out, but now seek to complete their dream of a doctorate. It is available to individuals in multiple disciplines because the program is mentor-centered and provides a mentor in the individual’s discipline.
